The "Handcraft"
models were handmade and hand engraved instruments that were produced
for a very long time. Finally, I've seen a ton of documentation recently that the basses from Martin are actually Conn/Buescher stencils. The tone holes are distinctly different, so I agree with this assumption. |

Model C Melody (appx. 1930 to appx. 1940) |
This is a kewl horn produced at about the same time as the Handcraft models: a C Melody horn aimed straight at the home market with keyed range of only C to C, lacking some chromatic keywork and all pearl keys. These models were only available in bare brass (possibly lacquer, too) and were a very "budget" item. Compare these horns to the Buescher Academy model. |
