BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE C.G. CONN GOLD PLATED PORTRAIT ALTO SAX
C.G. Conn "Chu Berry" burnished GOLD Plate extra elaborate alto saxophone (serial number 235517) - This is one of the very late "Chu Berry" model saxophones dating to 1930. This instrument is a showcase for the Conn engravers of the day. Etched into the portrait scene on this sax is a boy standing by a tree carving the initials of his girlfriend into the tree. She is also in the scene leaning behind a farm house style fence. The level of detail in the boys overhauls and in the girls dress is amazing (see detailed photos below....please wait for them to load it's well worth it)!!! The saxophone is in absolutely stunning condition. The gold plate is nearly 100% intact with only the slightest of wear on the touch pieces, tops of some rods, and the thumb rest. There are no dents anywhere! Even the bottom bow and the bell rim appear to have never had any damage!!! The only minor imperfection that I could find is that the bottom foot of the Eb key guard appears to have been resoldered some time ago (job very well done). The pads are in excellent playing condition (still soft with an excellent seat). I bought this horn from the original owner who was a top professional player here in St. Louis in his day. The horn is equipted with an original set of early Selmer flat metal tone boosters (late Super Balanced Action or early Mark VI)!!! This guys was a seroius player and knew how to take care of his horns. The neck is the Conn tuner style neck. It has a microphone pick up installed (see photos). The pickup can be easily and professionaly removed with hardly any traces if desired. This instrument has rolled tone holes, cross hatch G# key, and a tuner neck mechanism. LOW Reserve!
