These are pretty. The Prestige is a European-only model horn that
is ostensibly for orchestral use (it's nice that Buffet finally
acknowledges their strength, but it's a little late). There's a
lot more on Buffet's
website, but the upthrust is that these horns are copper because
copper warms up and produces a sweeter tone than brass -- at least,
that's the theory :) It's possible that all of these horns are actually Keilwerth-made. They don't have rolled tone holes and some parts seem to be copied from the S1, but Boosey owns Buffet and Keilweth, so you can sorta say that this is the orchestral version of a Keilwerth ... I have been told that you CAN get these horns special-ordered as all lacquer with a brass body. |
